History
In 1985, a group of local physicians in the Tuscaloosa area provided patients with a choice of facilities by opening the area's first, free-standing, outpatient surgical center. This group of physicians recognized that top quality, one-day surgery can be delivered in a cost-effective manner, away from a hospital setting in a modern, convenient facility.
From 1995 to 2005, the surgical center was known as HealthSouth Surgical Center of Tuscaloosa, primarily under the direction of HealthSouth with local physician involvement.
When the local physician owners increased their ownership percentage and implemented a new organizational structure, the name changed back to its original name, Tuscaloosa Surgical Center, in April 2005.
Today Tuscaloosa Surgical Center is proud to be affiliated with Surgical Care Affiliates, an Alabama-based company that exclusively owns and operates over 130 surgery centers and surgical hospitals. Local physicians remain as majority owners and are very active in the management and direction of the facility.
The facility encompasses 26,000 square feet and utilizes five operating rooms and seven procedure rooms. The Surgical Center employs 70 full and part-time employees.
The Center is licensed by the State of Alabama Department of Public Health as an Ambulatory Surgical Center, accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), and certified by Medicare.
